La Junqueira Artists Residency welcomed its 10th resident, artist EDUARDO FREITAS, from September to December 2022. Eduardo’s stay culminated in “EM.PREGO”, an exhibition named after a pun on the words “prego” (a traditional meat sandwich) and “emprego” (employment). The show included performance, ceramic sculptures, and video works.

During his 3-month project, Eduardo explored regional food iconography in the restaurants of Belém, Lisbon’s historic neighbourhood. He looked at the political, social, cultural, and historical issues existing at the intersection between labour and the act of eating. His project encompasses cultural aspects of the body and our collective experience. And offers transcultural artistic creations informed by his experience in Brazil and Portugal, in particular through common idiomatic expressions found in the Portuguese language.
